From CNN Meteorologist Mary Gilbert

Hurricane Milton’s ferocious winds are leaving hundreds of thousands of Floridians without power as the storm makes its way across the state. According to PowerOutage.us, more than 500,000 homes and businesses have lost electricity, and that number is expected to rise as the hurricane continues its path overnight.

The storm’s intense winds, which extend hundreds of miles from its centre, are bringing widespread outages to both coastal and inland areas. With Milton set to remain a powerful hurricane through the night, emergency officials warn that restoration efforts may be delayed until the storm weakens and conditions improve.

Residents are being advised to prepare for extended outages and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety as the storm continues to bring dangerous conditions across Florida.
